A petition of 500,000 for the climate by the global community, could we do better?
Hi everyone,
If you're reading this, you probably know me. In case you didnt know, HCI holds a Project Competition every year. And every year, people come up with projects they're interested in, like CIP projects for the poor, nutritional entrepeneurs, innovations etc. Next year, I want to do something big. Something for everyone standing on the earth. We've got to start doing something instead of just making empty promises. Each person cant do much, but if we instructed and educated the 300,000 primary school children (in Singapore alone) on small things they can do for the climate, what we would end up with would be a big contribution to the country and to the world.
Many people have also done projects related to the climate crisis. This isnt enough, we've got to do more. Informational websites are not enough on their own, neither are one-off talks. This project I'm proposing would have to comprise of everything done so far, and by the willing contribution of a few individuals, reach the hearts of every Singaporean in primary education through assembly talks and visits, to change the mindset of our youths and thus the country's attitude towards climate change.
If we could, one petition containing everybody's signatures would be an accomplishment. Even 10,000 people in 1 petition would be unheard of by a bunch of 15-16 year-olds. Who's with me?
( Extra information )
Again, I just wrote this in an hour or so, I dont expect my little dream to actually be accomplished, but it would be great if it was. I just couldnt waste all my time today :P
( If you're interested )
Thank you all.
Wanting to save the earth,
Marcus
P.S. I will be MIA until Christmas but please do not wait until then if you're interested, act now for the climate. Thanks :)

yesterday was great! even though i missed out the fun part, supposedly ): but the talking and games were still very fun! especially when we were playing mafia and the narrators kept missing out stuff haha. gave me a great life and i guess its a perfect ending to a year which did not go so well.
I had breakfast in the morning with my parents, was at SICC, so by the time i came back, got ready, and went to shiren's house it was already 10.40. Apparently they were playing some "hand thingy" earlier and then shiren (and canxiang?) had to do forfeit so the next person would get hugs or something. i saw jyh howe walking from serene centre, and i was walking from the bus stop opposite st. margarets. so i followed him all the way up. then apparently they didnt have time to prepare when jyh howe came, so when i walked in the gate then canxiang pretended to like grab me by the legs or something haha. it was quite retarded! XD
anyway after that we played some games like 99, and people kept coming like shiyin, brion, yirong, bq. ness jieru shiren bong canxiang zc were there before i came, yup. after restarting 99 twice, we played mafia and the narrators were ness, cheryl (best story-telling haha), changrui (forgot who he chose as murderer/detective/healer twice), and shiyin (kept forgetting to keep the lights off and ask the different roles to wake up seperately). anyway after that we had lunch (fried rice, beehoon, fried chicken and chicken nuggets).
Then we played pinthetailonthedonkey! :D:D i partnered Bong and she was really nice heh, didnt make me bang into anything. then we were first! yay :D but apparently we were supposed to paste the sticker on the tail part but we didnt know... we sticked it onto the ass heh.
then i had to leave ):
------after tennis, big battle in tinywarz, dinner-------
I followed my parents' car (they were going to some wedding) to shiren's house, and when i got there they hadn't even had dinner... ohwells. then uhm we opened the presents! i got a "mr cool" t-shirt from Bong (how am i supposed to wear it out! haha), a VIBRATING snowman head from shiren (it made really weird noises omg), and a nice pencil case from Jieru, shaped in the form of a tiger. Thank you Ness Bong Jieru Shiren for the gifts! and yirong for the toblerone :D
At about 8.30 canxiang bq jyh howe brion zc left ): so only Jesmond and I were left for the guys. Bq smsed shiren telling her to thank everyone, then the others had some crazy idea to call him back and everyone would shout "thank you bq!" it was quite retarded cos i think he couldnt understand haha. After that we just sat in a circle and talked about school stuff. It reminds me of the last night in camp when juxian ningxin chongyee and i were sitting in front of the hall in the cold air and talking (: good times.
Then at 10.30 everyone but bong and ness and shiyin left (cos they were waiting for shiyin's parents i think) and i walked with yirong to the bus stop and we talked for a while but sadly the bus arrived very early.
PS Bong, the shirt is slightly small and if i fold the sleeves there wont be any of it...
PPS the soggy cookie was like omgwtfbbqsauce! when i heard it D: and i was surprised at how jieru reacted hahaha

4.45pm--multipurpose hall (camp 2)
Ok I last wrote until just before 3km trek, whatever I missed I don't feel like putting it in. Today was an interesting day, and since we finished our land expedition early, we don't need to do anything until dinner. We also don't have to pitch tents (its drizzling anyway) cos we're sleeping in the multipurpose hall, on concrete! yay!
Hmm the night trek... the instructor of our buddy watch, Tenzing, (she's chiu ling/qiu ling) led us first us to the reservoir, then to our campsite, which was like maybe only 70-80m from it, beside an obstacle course. An interesting thing during the trek was that she asked us not to use our torchlights, because our eyes would adapt to the night, and i thought it was quite unique that she mention it. The ground at the campsite was quite soft and with little rocks, but sadly no grass. But anyway it was much better than the previous night and the five of us (benjamin joined us because his group lost their tent) slept well, except Zac who had sme rocks under his butt. I hanged my towel on the 4-pole under the fly sheet, and it dried quite well until Jonas flung it on the wet fly sheet and spoiled my efforts. The night was quite eventful, especially in the morning, even though we didn't have a disturbed sleep. When I woke up in the middle of the night the wind was very strong but rain was very light, and on and off. In the en we pegged it down in the dark, without torch light (cool right!)
That morning it was raining so the 5 of us slacked in the tent and played heart attack (hug-a-zac?) in our tent until we had no time left and then had to unpitch and pack up in rain ponchos. So we headed through the muddy forest back to camp 2, rested/talked through land ex strategy/packed more food, an left for land expedition (this morning).
We had to do a recce (pronounced rack-y) expedition to three places, Auntie's farm, something-hill (forgot) and German Girl's Shrine. Jonas actually brought up a joke, but its only for guys :D
So we were given the map grid references for the three locations, and had to plan our route+estimate time+assign roles, then we were off! These were all using the map that we had already. The route was first to this old auntie's house, hence the name. She lived there for quite long and she's quite pitiful, cos shes 65 years old but has to live alone and grow her own food. Second was the highest point on Ubin, it was like 65m tall and overlooked a quarry. We could see Singapore and i think Malaysia from up there, and from there we could hear echoes clearly, cos there was a 1 or 2 second lag between shoutand echo. Really cool! :D
Last but not least, there was this German girl's shrine. She and her family were hunted by the British after WWI and she escaped. Then...she fell down and died in the quarry... A lot of us were like ._. so anticlimax. Anyway one of the locals built a shrine for her then people prayed to her for luck and stuff.
Zac was quite funny at one point...
Zac: another 4km to 3rd checkpoint, oh ok lor!
Tiet Ho: No lah, 3rd checkpoint on the way back
Zac: On the way back, oh ok lor!
Nvm, anyway the poit was that for a while he kept saying "ok lor" and we didn't know whether he was sarcastic or not... Nvm i'm not funny (but i'm still gonna post this ha ha...)
Yay after that we came back and bathed, but I didn't, just changed lothes and had "Prickly Heat" powder bath, cos my towel was wet and didnt have any more underwear >.< Then we cooked dinner, again using bricks, solid fuel tablets, and mess tins+pots, but this timewe cooked all the leftover food so there was much more. We ate rice+noodles+canned tuna+canned sardines+canned curry chicken (ccc heh)+canned anchovies&curry(damn spicy)+canned mushrooms and lastly campbell soup. The best dinner of the camp :) btw for future OBS-ers, you dont need to cook the canned stuff, except curry chicken and curry anchovies.
I'll miss carrying the backpack and rain poncho, but i'm glad OBS is over and can continue on focusing for canoeing. Bye bye everyone! :D
okay this was my last entry during the OBS stay, and ill post after dinner tonight about my own reflections for this course

okay this was my last entry during the OBS stay, and ill post after dinner tonight about my own reflections for this course
Its lucky there are so many of these benches huh... Anyway could not get a suitable time yesterday to write so I may have forgotten some stuff. Right now I have slightly less than 40 minutes to write... should be an ok length entry.
Uhh... yep first day night I tried to make the chrysanthemum tea they provided but it needed hot water an so it was super diluted at the top of the cup and like syrup at the bottom. Then we spent our first night in Pulau Ubin, in the really cool tent (a sports tent, not the A shape tent) but I couldn't sleep cos the bottle I was sleeping on (as a pillow) leaked, and my shirt and sleeping area was wet and I was cold T.T so couldn't sleep for about 2 hours. Then in the morning we had a P.T. thing where we played some childish games, while other teams ran and stuff.
Later we had to pack up our given backpacks and head off for Camp 1, where we still are now. Then we got a tour of the camp and it looked quite nice. Until night time (after belaying obstacle course, kayaking training which was screwed by rain, some random games) when we were brought to our campsite. It was really muddy and rocky-which made pegging impossible, and when we were pitching it was, pitch black... so we had to pitch under torchlight. Anyway that night we didnt finish (writing very fast cos need to go for 3km night trek soon) pitching the tent, but couldnt sleep quite well for some reason.
Then this moring got sea expedition and we entered the mangrove swamp-instead of the usual round ubin race. There was one part where we had to get off, step in the quicksand-like mud, and bring the boats over the mud blockage/barrier (later found out that it was called a mud bund). Our shoes had lots of mud in it and nearly got stuck at one point, had to take like 5 minutes to free my leg and even after then had to quickly get on the boat, was sinking in again ): gtg bye!
12.10pm--On the ferry from Punggol to Pulau Ubin
Only now are we getting to pulau ubin, even though we arrived at the reception at 8.30 D= oh nvm can't write anymore, need to go off the boat.
7-7.30pm--On a bench in the middle of the courtyard
Dark clouds are looming over our camp 2 and the campsites =( Probably have rain tonight, but that'll be good cos our tent has little ventilation so some cool air will be great I guess. Ok starting from 8 something am when we reached Punggol...
We were gathered into our groups, first in this small-but cozy-room, then they moved us out into an open 'meeting point'. Lukily there was cloud cover so no direct sunlight, but it was still rather hot after a while and the camp instructors even asked us to put on sublock!
There was this instructor, a lady, who talked to us and she said, 'Last year's Hwachong boys would reply with "the morning is good!"' (she said "good morning" to us right before this). So itll be like, 'Good morning!' 'The morning is good!'... such a lame makeup story, I mean, if she said it was like SCGS who said that, maybe it'll be more believable. Not that i have anyhing against them, but you know...
Then we went to a corner for icebreaking, but my group's instructor was so boring (not the worst though -relief-). So anyway there's Tiet Ho, Zachary, Jonas, and Benjamin from ispark. Tiet Ho's in my class, and he and Zac are in NCC. Benjamin's a smart guy, and Jonas is gay, or rather bi, seriously D:
At 12 thereabouts we boarded the boat, and since we were the 2nd last group we arrived at Pulau Ubin off-schedule, late :(
Then we got to Camp 2, and they collected all our 'valuable' items, eg handphone, wallet, EZ link cards, even medicine! and any sweets/snacks. At least I can keep my strepsils haha (and on the 5th day i found a pack of clorets i accidentally smuggled in haha) :D then we got to get our food, but we couldn't eat yet. We had to take out the tenting stuff from our 'store'. Oh and my group's name is Hillary, our buddy 'watch' is Tenzing (group=watch). It's quite cool heh, like edmund hillary and tenzing, who climbed everest? yup.
We had to repack our groundsheets, fly sheets, and tents, and tent poles/pegs into tent bags. (Eep there're so many people around me, at first the bench was quite ulu/private. Ohwell) Hmm then we had to split up at one point, to 1) wash+refill the 2l waterb bottles provided for us-btw dont need to bring big water bottle for OBS, just buy a bottled drink from school before leaving or smth, since they provide the bottles. 2) finish packing tent stuff, and 3) divide the food into 16 groups and put them into the plastic bags we submitted to the 'food IC'.
Everybody gets to have a leadership role, eg 1st/2nd day IC, 1st/2nd campsite IC, water IC (reminding us to drink water regularly), food IC etc. Food here really sucks. They give us our breakfast+lunch food for 4 days, since 1 day we are eating cooked food at camp 1, and it fills up half a plastic bag. And everything's like crackers, red bean/kaya buns, etc. There's really not enough D: Then all our food for the trip is provided on the first day, and when we see how much there is, its really pathethic. (ok this was initially but later i realised there were a lot of food, since there are packs of food that have to be eaten once opened, like no individual packages to split, so those are shared/commitment food. And we had a lot of it)
Anyway today we did this Belaying exercise, can read up more about it yourself if you want. But anyway now I appreciate the people holding your line in Rock Climbing, much much more. When they're lowering/pulling you up, your body weight is pressed on their crotch area, and it really sucks. Trust me, I know, since I was having to lower a 60-70kg guy. Like what you feel on your harness is the same as what they are feeling...
Then we got to set up tents, and cook rice using solid fuel tablets and a pot. And use the mess tins to cook canned stuff, like sausages or 'baked' beans or peanuts. In the end it took too long so my small group (people I mentioned earlier minus Benjamin) just ate the cold stuff in our tent, cos the 4 of us are sleeping together. It was okay, and the rice was very good-also because it was cooked by the instructor-but the can of peanuts couldn't be opened and we bent the pocket knife in the process :( Anyway have to end soon so gonna end with some tips for OBS that I learnt in the 1st day (no burying of holes to shit yet).
1. smuggle granola bars in. They give some bars but not enough for 4 days.
2. Bring lots of toilet roll
3. Bring lots of toothpaste. They make you coat the bottom of the pot with toothpaste so the soot will be on the toothpaste, for easier washing. Preferably a new tube, the big ones.
4. Bring a good penknife (in hindsight, not that required actually)
5. Bring a lot of solid fuel tablets
6. Smuggle sweets in Lozenges packet... or just bring lozenges if you want haha.
well will probably need to go soon, the tents are nice here, food bad, untidy bag. Love ya lots, bye :D

Love ya lots, bye :D
im back from OBS :D ill post whatever i have in my diary. and its a bit gross but i thought some people might want to know what actually goes on with all the bathing/shitting, like nobody actually had to use the entrenchment tool (a spade) to dig holes for you-know-what. and there are some lame bits in my diary but still going to post them... not sure why but please bear with it. and i had 3 "entries" so ill be posting them seperately for easier editing/commenting. yay here goes, eating lunch at the same time so will be slow. wait for it :D
THANKS everyone who wished me happy birthday, especially my little brother justin (if you're receiving this), jieru, ness (though cos of shiren forgot right date), shiren, canxiang, yirong, lauren, kimberly, and bernice :D dont ask why haha. love you all (:
mp3000.net rocks, i've been searching chris brown and akon songs for the past hour, playing tinywarz, and typing race on facebook haha. rachel's typing speed is crazy, but liki still beat hers
Dear Jieru,
I dont really know how to tell you this, but our romance is over. I think i realized it when i quoted Forest Gump, Under a street light, and i saw you carve your initials into my salt-beef bucket. I'm sure you're man enough to understand that we're related. I'm returning your love letters to me, but i'll keep your suicide node as a memory. You should also know that I always wanted to break your legs and im off to lead a new life as a lemmon.
Go milk a cow,
Marcus

Ricard "Ricky" Rubio Vives (born October 21, 1990 in El Masnou, Barcelona) is a Spanish professional basketball player. Considered a child prodigy in basketball, Rubio became the youngest player ever to play in the Spanish ACB League, considered by some to be the top domestic league in Europe, on October 15, The 1.92-metre (6 ft 3.6 in)-tall Rubio is playing the point guard position for Joventut Badalona in both the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto and the Euroleague, which is regarded as the world's top professional club annual basketball competition outside of the National Basketball Association. ricky rubio! ownage, he's only 17 years old! and he's like 1.92m... haha the gold medal basketball match just ended. USA won, by 11 points i think. whee they're so pro! and the commentator, bruce smth, was also very good. awesome commentating! the game was quite close actually, like the gap was 8,9,10 points but sometimes got down to 4 points. and the pro shooters from USA, kobe bryant, wade, lebron james, and the spain's "playmaker", cant find his name tho
haha ownage people, they're so tall! like there're the brothers in spain who're both >2m tall. one's 7feet tall leh, 2.13m. damn! oh no olympic's ending ): its so sad

eek the new facebook sucks
hmm and today i had math test, it was super difficult. i would be really happy if i could get an a1, but i highly doubt it D:
then after school ended i took a 174 home and it was a cool bus :D like the seats were sofa type and the aircon was more comfortable, not too cold like the new 174s or the 67s and not too hot like the old 74s etc. yay :D

hmm yesterday my project was super screwed. I started work at 8+, about 8.40 liddat, then did untill nearly 11, but that's not all. I was doing it on the file that i downloaded from the email ziyao sent me, and so when i downloaded it i "opened" it. then i forgot to save as while i was doing it, so when i felt sleepy i just hit ctrl+s and closed it. like omg i didnt save it in a folder. so i tried to find it but to no avail T.T failure
then i had to do it again today but i kept digressing and not paying attention to it. like playing games etc >< now i need to focus so can finish by 11
